Nexgard-Chews begin killing fleas within four hours after administration and are known to achieve more than 99% efficacy at eight hours.
After administration, the active component of Nexgard, afoxolaner, is quickly absorbed into the dog's bloodstream. As soon as fleas and ticks take the bloodmeal from the Nexgard-treated dog, they ingest afoxolaner which causes hyperexcitation in the parasites' nervous system and kills them.
Nexgard-Chews should only be used on dogs. It is not recommended for use on cats or other animals.
A field study revealed no adverse reactions of Nexgard chews' concomitant use with other treatments including vaccines, antibiotics (including topicals), NSAIDS, anthelmintics, steroids, anesthetics, and antihistamines.
If the dog vomits within two hours of administering Nexgard, give another full dose. If vomiting occurs after two or more hours, it is likely the dosage has been absorbed.
The fleas you see are probably new fleas that attach to your pet. They are likely to get killed by Nexgard before they begin laying eggs. To protect your dog from new flea infestations, continue treating them with Nexgard throughout the year without interruption.
